About the event

Journey to the start of the Grand Canyon at Marble Canyon beneath the soaring Vermillion Cliffs. Enjoy a full day of amazing geology as we travel back in time from the Jurassic to the Permian, investigating the scenic Echo and Vermillion cliffs that rise majestically above the Marble Canyon, which marks the beginning of the Grand Canyon. Observe landslides, river gravels deposited by the Colorado River, unconformities, and more.

Trip includes several short hikes up to 0.5 miles round trip with minimal elevation gain on sometimes irregular terrain. Participants should bring a sack lunch, snacks, water, and appropriate clothing/footwear each day. We will organize a carpool at the meeting point. You can opt out of any hikes if you are unable to do them.
